    • Newspaper: 18 Aug 1944, The Salisbury Post, Salisbury, Rowan, North Carolina; Military Honors For Ned Miller Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. today at the First Methodist church for Ned Beeker Miller, technician fifth grade, U.S. army, who died Tuesday of cerebral hemorrhage at Camp Stewart, Ga. Full military honors were accorded the 20-year-old soldier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey H. Miller of 823 North Jackson street. Pallbearers were members of the Samuel C. Hart post of the American Legion who have sons in service. Burial followed in Memorial Park cemetery. Official details of his death have not been learned, but it was unofficially reported that he suffered a stroke after swimming, during a recreation hour at or near his base. An ambulance was summoned, but death occurred before it reached the hospital. Young Miller, a graduate of Boyden High school and student at State college, at both of which he was outstanding in athletics, entered the army March 4, 1943. Surviving are his parents, a brother, and a sister in the Waves. Cpl. James H. Aydelette, of Greensboro, a former student at Catawba college, served as escort for the body from Camp Stewart.

SALISBURY, Aug. 18. — Ned B. (Beek) Miller, Army technician, was buried here this afternoon in Memorial Park cemetery following military funeral services at First Methodist church. A military escort had accompanied the body home from Camp Stewart, Ga., where the local young man had met accidental death August 15. Miller entered the Army in March, 1943, while in his junior year at State college. He had previously been outstanding in student activities and sports as a student of Boyden High school here. His parents survive; a brother, Harvey H. Miller, Jr.; a sister, Lieut. (jg) Juanita Miller Spector, USNR, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Miller, of Salisbury, and Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Beeker, of Lexington.

Pallbearers were members of the Samuel C. Hart post of the American Legion, as follows: Dr. I. E. Shafer, R. N. Wingate, J. G. Hudson, Reid R. Goodson, Thomas B. Van Poole and E. J. Gallagherd. In charge of the Legion’s part of the service were R. L. Van Poole, post commander, and Lieut. Col. C. L. Shaver of the Legion and the 24th company of the state guard. The church services were conducted by the Rev. Walter J. Miller, pastor of the First Methodist church. At the graveside honors were accorded by a firing squad from Morris Field, Charlotte, and by a Morris Field chaplain, who conducted a brief service. Present also was Cpl. James H. Aydelette of Greensboro, military escort for the body of the 20-year-old soldier from Camp Stewart, Ga., where he died Tuesday of cerebral hemorrhage. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey H.
