    Notes:

    He had been in declining health
    for eighteen months. He was bur. Pilgrim Reformed United
    Church of Christ. Buford md. Margaret Quick of Robertson Co.,
    NC on 2 Jun 1945. He was owner and operator of Ward Printing
    Company and was retired from Acme Sample Book Printing
    Company in High Point, NC as a supervisor. At Pilgirrn, he was a member of the church consistory, a 40-years member of the
    church choir, a past treasurer and former deacon and elder.
    He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II joining on
    8 Dec 1941, one day after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor.
    According to a close friend, Harold Stanford, “He was probably
    the most decorated military man in Davidson Co.” However his
    wife said she was unsure what medals and awards he had earned.
    He did not talk about his turbulent time in the service. He served two years each in the Pacific and the Atlantic. He was on board the Joseph Hewes or USS Schuylkill as a Signalman when the ship was sunk in battle of the African coast. “His ship was torpedoed, and he was floating around in oil,” this was close to the African coast, Margaret said and was soon picked up.
    He was a volunteer for Hospice of Davidson County and
    Meals on Wheels and served on the advisory board for East
    Davidson High School for many years. He also, was a member of
    VFW Post 3074. Buford was an avid golfer and played almost
    every day at Sapona Country Club. He enjoyed fishing and gin rummy.
    Buford suffered a stroke in July before his death, that forced
    him to give up golf and driving. He was very frustrated at not
    being able to keep up his busy pace. Margaret drove him around
    Davidson Co., several times a week, they continued to go to
    church and his brother John Ray took him fishing and they all
    traveled to the beach together. On the Saturday before his death he and Margaret attended the Ward family Christmas party at the church with about 130 people in attendance
