MARION — Mr. John Willard Beck, 89, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, at his residence.
Mr. Beck was born in Thomasville Nov. 30, 1921, and was a son of the late John Franklin Beck and Zena Grubb Beck.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in WWII.
Mr. Beck was former Chief of Police for the City of Marion and he was a retired fireman, following 27 years of service.
Saddened by the loss of Mr. Beck are his wife of 25 years, Doris Curry Beck, of the home; two children, Brenda Austin, of Marion, and Jim Beck and his wife, Patricia, of Nebo; six step-children, Eddie Lanning, Jackie Westmoreland, Terri McNeely, Lori Edwards, Lisa Lanning and Susan Mills; two brothers, Bill and Richard Beck; one sister, Louise Scarlett; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 15, at 2 p.m. in Westmoreland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Edwards officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
Interment will be held in Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors being provided by the U.S. Army.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of McDowell County, 575 Airport Road, Marion, NC 28752.
