PHILLIP FRITTS, son of Henry Fritts (c1770) and his first wife, b. 10 Jan 1803, Lincoln Co., NC; d. 31 May 1864, age
61y 4m 1d, Maries Co., MO, bur. Walker Cem., near Vichy, Maries Co., MO, as was his wife, Frances, 20y later; Ind. Frances Jane Williams on 15 Dec 1830 (date of bond), Roane Co., TN, with his brother Peter Fritts providing the surety. Frances Jane was b. 16 May 1813, Virginia (according to 1850 Roane Co., TN and 1860 Maries Co., MO censuses). She d. 3 Jul 1884, age 71y 3m 18d, according to her tombstone. They had twelve children—nine born in Roane Co., TN and three born in Maries Co., MO.

Phillip wrote his will on 27 May 1864, just four days before he died. He made small bequests to the following children: Phillip Ballard Fritts...when he attains the age of 21 years, Marion F. Fritts, Amanda Lee Fritts, Arletha Fritts, Mary Ann Bradshaw, Armelia Jane Love, Nancy Ann Fritts, Robert W. Fritts, Peter B. Fritts and son Samuel S. Fritts at his death...Remained of estate to wife Frances Fritts. Executor: William S. Pannell (Pinnel).

Witnesses: Jacob Moreland and G.W. Shinkle, both of Lanes
Prairie. Codicil—including a description of land in Phelps Co., with the same date and witnesses. Also, renaming daus., Mary Ann Bradshaw, Permelia Jane Love, Nancy Ann Fritts, Addia
Frances Fritts, Arletha Paris Fritts and Amanda Lee Fritts. On
30 Mar 1872, eight years after it was written the will was official recorded.

[The above will listed “Peter B.” it should have read Peter M., Samuel S. should have read Samuel I_..And Samuel had been dead some two years when his father wrote his will. In the first part of the will five daus. were listed leaving Frances out. In the Codicil the six daus. were listed. ..PAF]

Frances obtained a mother’s pension (#304,751, dated 21 May
1883) from her son Samuel who died while in service during the
Civil War. Witnesses were listed as William R. Fritts and F.M.
Harrison.

While in Tennessee on 26 Jan 1839, nine years after Phillip
marriage he purchased a tract of land from George Cook, Jr., paying $400. George, Jr. received this land from his father George Cook, Sr. at his death. The land was registered on 7 May 1849 and witnessed by Robert Williams. The land was located on Sinking Cave Creek on the Clinch River, Roane Co., TN and this was were Phillip as a farmer raised his family.

In preparation for his move to Lanes Prairie, Maries Co., MO,
Phillip sold on 21 Sep 1851, the above tract of land to Edward
Munger. It was registered on 19 Apr 1855. The move in the fall of 1851 took about six to eight weeks by covered wagon and they arrived in Maries Co. by Nov 1851.

Mack Raymond Fritts wrote in 1965: “about his great randfather, Philip Fritts, using only one “I”. Philip Fritts came from PA in 1857 [Not correct he came from TN in 1851] and settled in Maries Co., on the same farm grandfather Phillip Ballard Fritts lived on. Grandpa was the youngest one in the family. Great Grandpa, or Philip Fritts (1803), died at the young age of 61y. He was bur. Walker Cem., located on the old Walker farm, one mile west of Grandpa's home. The farm was “homesteaded” and the deed was signed by the President of the U.S. Up to now—l965—there have been only three owners—only one (the last) was not of the Fritts name.

Wanda (Steinhoff) King and her sister Delma (Steinhoff) Sampson took a trip from their home in KS to Vichy, Maries Co., M0, the home of their ancestors. Where they visited the Hickory Grove Cem. where they saw many familiar family names such as Love, Copeland and Bradshaw. The Fritts plot had an iron picket fence and gate around the graves. Wanda could not get the gate open, so she climbed over the fence. The fence originally was meant to fence turkeys out.

In the plot were six stones. There were very old and on two she was unable to read anything on them. On another it stated Mother and nothing more that she could read. The other two she thought were Dr. Otto Fritts’ parents Eliza Ellen Fritts, May 4, 1900, 54y 6m 4d. The records for Volume I of the Fritts Heritage had Ella Eliza, b 30 Aug 1843 and d. 4 May 1900, so Wanda feel sure this was Dr. Otto’s mother. The last one said Frank Fritts, d. June 14, 1902, this was the first born child of Dr. Otto Fritts and his wife. Frank d. before he was a year old.

Yesterday the relatives of the sick man were called to his bedside by telegraph, as it was believed that he would live but a few hours. Mr. FRITTS is 76 years of age.
• Obituary: 2 Dec 1893, The Chattanooga Daily Times, Chatanooga, Hamilton, Tennessee, USA; Isham FRITTS. His Death Occurs Yesterday at the Home of His Son. Isham FRITTS, aged 73, father of Henry W., B.F. and Willie FRITTS and Mrs. T.A. ROBERTS, died yesterday morning at the residence of Henry W. FRITTS, No. 243 Harrison avenue, of a complication of diseases arising from dropsy. The deceased had been quite ill for several weeks and his life had been despaired of for days. Mr. FRITTS was taken ill in Kingston several months ago. It is thought two weeks ago that his death would be but a matter of a few hours, and his family was summoned to his bedside. However, he rallied, and his sons had him brought to this city, so that he could receive the best of medical attention. For several days after his arrival in the city he began to sink rapidly, and to all it was evident that the end was near at hand. The deceased had lived in East Tennessee for many years and was exceptionally well known. The funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence of Henry W. FRITTS, Revs. W.D HAYMORE and J.P. McFERRIN officiating. The interment will be made in Forest Hills cemetery. The pallbearer will be F.M. GARDENHIRE, E. M. DODSON, C.S. PEAK, W.R. PHILLIPS, John H. PEEBLES and A.K. TRIGG
• Obituary: 3 Dec 1893, The Chatanooga Daily Times; Funeral of Isham FRITTS. The remains of Isham FRITTS, who died at the residence of Henry W. FRITTS On Harrison avenue Thursday, were interred in Forest Hills cemetery. Rev. R.D. HAYMORE and Dr. J.P. McFERRIN officiated. The obsequies were largely attended, as the deceased was exceptionally well known in this section, being one of the oldest residents. He was the father of Henry W., Thomas W., B.F. and Willie FRITTS, and Mrs. T.A. ROBERTS.

ISHAM G. “ISOM” FRITTS, son of Jacob and Sarah
(Sexton) Fritts (1800), b. 12 Jul 1820, Roane Co., TN; d. 1 Dec 1893; md. Elizabeth Melcinna Jordon on 8 Sep 1839, by A. McAlister, JP, Monroe Co., TN. Elizabeth was b. C1823, TN. It is possible that her father was Thomas Jordon who d. before 1846. Her mother was Lucinda (_?_), who was b. 1776, VA. Lucinda was located in Isham’s household, age 84y.

According to the Mar 1846 Chancery Court at Madisonville, TN,
record #226 “John Avans, Adm. of Thomas Jourden, dec’d, VS
Anderson and Wily Jouden, Dialtha Wayne, William T. Jourden,
Elizabeth and Isham Frits, heirs.” Elizabeth appears to of had one sister and three brothers living at the time of her father’s death.

It has been recorded that Lucy Whittler was the wife of Thomas
Jordon and mother of Elizabeth who md. Isham. Lucy and Lucinda
may be the same person and Whittler may have been her maiden
name.

Isham, whose name has been spelled several ways including
Isom and Isham of which we will use the later was a farmer,
saloonkeeper, and dealer in real estate, in and around Kingston, TN where he sold and traded property.

Isham and his family seem to have been the “Bert Lances” of
Kingston with promissory notes going and coming in all directions. They were making contracts to deliver title to fractions of half-acre lots in Kingston being paid for by notes, while they were buying these lots with the notes. The catch was who payed off who’s notes first. While some of the fractional half-acre lots in Kingston were selling for over a thousand dollars, Isham had to mortgage one of his lots for
a $50 loan from of all people, the real, Hugh Martin, whom, we guess, may have been the builder of the steamboat the “Hugh Martin”—that killed Isham’s son, Jacob. One of the deeds was for the steamboat the “Emory City” (not to be confused with little Dorothy and her Emerald City) and the deed showed it was built in Kingston.

From Roane Co., TN deeds we might, romantically, refer to
them as the "Song of the Tennessee Boatman" involve three sons of Isham Fritts: Jacob, who on 31 Mar 1875, trades the “Emory City” to R.M. and Uriah Allison for the "Hugh Martin" and a note from the Allisons for $5,000; Tom W. Fritts, younger brother, who files an Inventory of the Estate of Jacob consisting of the wreck of the “Hugh Martin”, the balance of the $5,000 note, and a list of about 150 small payments owing to the “Hugh Martin”, and who later in Nov 1875 buys from the Allisons the “Emory City”, and, Wiley H. to whom Tom W. sells the “Emory City” early in 1876.

It was said by Mary Katherine (Fritts) Glover many years ago
that Isham and Elizabeth had nine children with two dying as infants. Thus we are placing a unnamed child between Benj and Matilda.

I agree this is M. H., M is for Mary. I do not believe she married Anthony Hodge Fritts as stated. I believe Anthony Hodge Fritts is married to her sister Lou B. Adams.

Lou B. would not show up in the 1870 census because of birth year. But she does show up in the 1880 census with her grandparents Richard and Mary Williams, she is listed as grand daughter. Year: 1880; Census Place: Hurricane, Crittenden, Kentucky; Roll: 410; Page: 67B; Enumeration District: 057

This has to be the Lou B. daughter of Amanda and Joel Adams. As of now Amanda only had 2 other sisters, Mary L. who died at 9 by state records, to young to have a child and a sister Harriet A. who would have been to young to have a child since she was born in 1860.

Lou B.'s marriage record from Hardin County, Illinois, confirms she is the daughter of Amanda and Joel Adams and is married to Anthony Hodge Fritts.

Clifford along with his mother, father and three brothers, Walter, Oscar and Jimmie attend Rockwood Christian Church. He began his career as a clerk in a grocery store, upon completing the first year of high school.
Clifford lived for a short time with Walter and his family at Blue Diamond, KY. Walter returned to Rockwood where he owned and operated the Rockwood Coffee Shop [Cousin Aileen called it the “Fritts Coffee Shop]. After Walter’s death Clifford managed the restaurant.
It was at this time that Clifford met Margaret Earhart, b. 12 Mar 1911, dau. of Thomas Abram and Nancy Porter (Love) Earhart. Margaret d. 6 Mar 1993. Thomas was a carpenter and pattern maker for the Roane Iron Company. Margaret had worked several years as a telephone operator for Southern Bell Telephone Co. before quitting to waitress at the Coffee Shop. They md. 11 Apr 1936, Rockwood Presbyterian Church, with Rev. J.C. Orr officiating. Aileen Fritts, Clifford’s niece was their witness.

Their only child, Iris Lynn was b. 31 May 1937. Clifford and
Margaret then moved to Blue Diamond, KY. He worked as butcher in the meat department. He continued in this position at Egan, KY and Bonny Blue, VA.
They lived at Bonny Blue during World War H. With meat being
rationed, some of Clifford’s customers accused him of getting all the meat he wanted. So Clifford “just politely” built a small, neat, off-the ground chicken coop and they ate mostly chicken for the duration.
He was promoted to store manager and the family moved to
Westburn, TN. He then managed Blue Diarnond’s stores at Royal
Blue, TN, Chevrolet, KY, and Bonny Blue, VA.

Clifford spent the last twelve of his working years with
Oakwood Markets in Kingsport, TN. It was here that Clifford and Margaret owned their first and only home. Margaret was an immaculate housekeeper and she made a lovely home wherever they lived. She loved flowers and often on the back of
the moving truck, baskets of bulbs and cuttings would be bumping along to their new home. She worked several years as PBX operator for Oakwood. She often read the Bible and dictionary when resting.
They were very close. Through the years they enjoyed after
church picnics at Norris Dam and Big Ridge State Park in TN. And they spent most of their vacations in the Great Smoky Mountains.
After Clifford retired they moved back to Rockwood. They were
faithful members of the Rockwood United Methodist Church.
Upon reaching his eighties, with tears of gratitude Clifford
remarked to his daughter, “Mother and I feel honored to have lived so and Oscar at the Oak Grove Cem. in Rockwood.
Clifford once commented, that as a young boy his father’s arms
seemed to be as broad as they were long-muscled from his years of work as a blacksmith. On the back of a picture postcard James (1866) had written in a very nice script:

Hello: I am fine how are you. Read your card and was glad
to hear from you. Being you sent me one of my pictures I will
return one in the place of it, hoping you all a happy Easter.

The card was sent to Mrs. Ed. Fritts, Wind Rock, Tenn. Etta was the widow of Ed, Roxie’s brother. She was the stepmother of Ella Mae (Fritts) Seward. Ella Mac was always close to her Aunt Roxie and Uncle James.
The picture on the postcard was of James, a helper, and several others in front of his shop. James was shoeing a large white horse. The card was dated Rockwood—Apr. 12, 1911.

Lillie's surviving immediate family includes her oldest son, Leonard Little; daughter, Janie DuPlantis and her husband, Mike DuPlantis of St. Hedwig, Texas; and youngest son, Richard Little and wife, Bonnie Little of Adkins, Texas. Also six grandchildren, Scott Len Little of St. Louis, Mike Duplantis II, of San Antonio, Texas, Michelle DuPlantis Housley of Universal City, Texas, Kim Little Benavides of St. Hedwig, Texas, Tess Little Winkler of Hawaii and Richard "Bubba" Little, now serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in Iraq. Lillie also had five great-grandchildren, Brendon and Brittany Little, Graecen Housley, Canyen White and Hunter Benavides. In addition, Lillie is survived by two brothers, Harley Fritts of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Wilbur Junior Fritts, of Flint, Mich. Five brothers preceded Lillie in death; Orie, Edward, Curtis, Alphie and Herman Fritts. Three sisters preceded her in death; Mabel Hampton, Willie Mae Henderson, and infant, Edna Fritts. Lillie is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; including one very special great, great, great nephew, Ryan Lehnig of Malden. She is also survived by a host of friends who became her extended family. Lillie will be remembered for so many things. Her home was always a safe haven for children of all ages. She helped so many people, touched so many lives with her kindness and generosity. Everyone who knew Little loved her. She was a loving mother not only to her own children but to those who came to love her as their second Mom. She was independent, forgiving and strong spirited. She loved Jesus, and counted everyone in her life as special blessings. Lillie was dearly loved by all her children, family and friends. Until the very end, Lillie was independent, sharp, witty and so proud to be a FRITTS.

Charlie O. Garrett, age 85, of Batesville, died Friday, February 1, 2013 in a local hospital. He was born July 7, 1927 in Jamestown, the son of Grover Garrett and Celia Wackerly Garrett. He was of the Baptist faith. 
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Von Garrett; 4 brothers: Ott Garrett, Vernon Garrett, Ed Garrett, Everett Garrett; a sister, Lue Ella Nicholson; and a grandson, Justin Melton. 

Survivors include his wife, Faye Garrett of the home; a son, Larry Silas of Southside; a daughter, Lynda Grissom of Banner; 4 grandchildren: LJ Silas, Kasey Garrett, Josh Melton, Cody Garrett; and 7 great grandchildren: Remington Silas, Keller McPherson, Kellee Chism, Shyla Chism, Brayden Melton, Kent Garrett, and Kolton Garrett. 
A memorial service is scheduled for 4:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Willis Funeral Service with Bob Dailey officiating.

William "Ott" Garrett, 75 of Sulphur Rock, died Thursday, May 22, 2008 at his residence. He was born on June 13, 1932 in Jamestown, Arkansas to Grover and Celia Wackerly Garrett. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, two sons, four brothers, and one sister. 

Survivors include his wife Katherine of Sulphur Rock; two sons, Rick Garrett of Southside and Elvis Garrett of Southside; two daughters Cynthia Tignor of Charlotte and Judy Fraser of Desha; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. 

Memorial Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2008 at Wackerly Cemetery in Jamestown, AR . 

Visitation is from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday at Willis Funeral Service Chapel in Batesville.

• Obituary: 7 Jul 2020, Granite City, Madison, Illinois, USA; Alice Euvaughn Williams, age 81, of St. Louis, MO, formerly of Granite City, IL, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2020 at her home. Alice was born on January 31, 1939 in Pocahontas, AR, a daughter of the late Robert Lee Garrett and Eula Mabel (Hollaway) Garrett. On June 11, 1971, Alice married Herbert Williams in Granite City, IL. Alice retired from Piece Goods Fabric Store as a manager after many years of dedicated service. Alice was an excellent seamstress who enjoyed sewing and making costumes for the opera house in Raleigh, NC. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Alice loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by a son, Scott Allen; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Allen; two brothers and three sisters, Ron Garrett, Bill McCluskey, Dorothy Hollaway, Sally Garrett and Patsy Garrett. She is survived by her devoted husband of forty-nine years, Herbert Williams of St. Louis, MO; loving children, Janet (Roger) Wilson of Crestwood, MO, Belinda Morgan of Granite City, IL, Yvette (Richard) Fritts of Granite City, IL and Dennis Allen of Des Moines, IA; siblings, Pastor Douglas (Louise) Garrett of Granite City, IL, Thomas Garrett of O’Kean, AR and Donna Robertson of O’Kean, AR; proud grandmother to twenty grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Alice deserves a beautiful tribute. However, in this unknown time a private family visitation and funeral will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL, with her brother Pastor Douglas Garrett officiating. • Obituary: 18 Feb 2024, Online; Luther "Luke" Stanley Hall Sr., age 93, a resident of Oliver Springs, entered eternal rest on Sunday morning, February 18, 2024, at home with his family. Luke was born in Oliver Springs, Tennessee, on January 13, 1931, to Herbert Spencer and Ottis Fritts Hall. Luke attended school in Oliver Springs, graduating from Oliver Springs High School. As an adult, he attended two semesters at Knoxville College. And, he graduated from the University of Tennessee, where he studied industrial education. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Luke served from 1948 to 1953. After his six years of active-duty service, Luke served 10 years with the Air Force reserves. In addition to his military service to our country, Luke also contributed significantly – through his civic partnership and in education and business – to life in Roane County. He served 12 years on the Roane County Board of Education, holding the position of chairman several times. Also, he served four years as a member of the Tennessee Board of Education. Additionally, Luke was a member of the Oliver Springs Lions Club, serving first as its vice president and then as president. He was also a 65-plus-year member of the Omega Lodge No. 536 in Oliver Springs. Luke was a businessman for much of his life. Over several decades, he owned and operated a restaurant, several car lots, antique stores, and a trucking company, as well as investing in real estate in the downtown Oliver Springs area. He also owned a classic car museum for several years. Prior to starting his own trucking business, Luke worked for several years at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge. Luke was married for almost 70 years to "the love of his life," the former Dorothy "Dot" Mae Sisson, who preceded him in death on May 14, 2022. Luke said the two of them met at Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church in Oliver Springs when he was 11 and Dorothy was 9. The couple married at that same church on October 31, 1952. In addition to traveling, something that he and Dot did extensively, Luke also greatly enjoyed collecting and trading classic and antique cars throughout his life. He also enjoyed cutting up and joking around with friends and family, who will long remember his favorite jokes that he liked to tell anyone who would listen. A faithful man of God, Luke was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Oliver Springs, where he served as deacon for many years. He followed God's instruction when, in 2017 and early 2018, he led the construction of the large 60-foot-cross that stands in front of Beech Park Baptist Church. He wanted everyone to know they are welcome at the foot of the Cross of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. In addition to his parents, and his beloved wife, Luke was also preceded in death by the couple's son, Luther Stanley Hall, Jr.; two older brothers, C.A. and Emmett Hall, and their wives, Polly and Ethel; a sister-in-law, Lynette Seeber; and a brother-in-law, Ben Irwin. He leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Janley Elizabeth Hall of Florida; granddaughter, Leean Tupper of Clinton; nieces, Janice Daugherty and Betty Hall Price, both of Oliver Springs, and Laveta "Punkin" Raby of Soddy Daisy; nephews, Kelly Hall and wife, Mary, of Oliver Springs, and Kent Hall and wife, Gale, of Sevierville; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Seeber of Kentucky, and Mabel Irwin of Elizabethton, Tennessee; special cousin, Elizabeth "Toodie" Hall of California; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; very special friends, Marvin Bass and JC Bass, Danny Duncan, and Barbara and Gary Sanders, all of Oliver Springs, and all his very special "car buddies," too numerous to name. Special thanks are given to Luke's nurse, Tonya Porter, who was very good with him and has become a member of the family. We also want to acknowledge the medical staff at Methodist Medical Center's third floor wing, who demonstrated attentiveness and provided excellent care to Luke and his family during his recent hospitalizations. Special thanks also to the amazing team at Covenant Hospice for their care and support to Luke and his family in recent days. Luke's family will receive his friends from 5-7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Oliver Springs. A graveside service, with full military honors, will be held on Thursday morning, 11:00 am at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Clinton, with Brother Kirk Wallace officiating.
