Yesterday the relatives of the sick man were called to his bedside by telegraph, as it was believed that he would live but a few hours. Mr. FRITTS is 76 years of age.
• Obituary: 2 Dec 1893, The Chattanooga Daily Times, Chatanooga, Hamilton, Tennessee, USA; Isham FRITTS. His Death Occurs Yesterday at the Home of His Son. Isham FRITTS, aged 73, father of Henry W., B.F. and Willie FRITTS and Mrs. T.A. ROBERTS, died yesterday morning at the residence of Henry W. FRITTS, No. 243 Harrison avenue, of a complication of diseases arising from dropsy. The deceased had been quite ill for several weeks and his life had been despaired of for days. Mr. FRITTS was taken ill in Kingston several months ago. It is thought two weeks ago that his death would be but a matter of a few hours, and his family was summoned to his bedside. However, he rallied, and his sons had him brought to this city, so that he could receive the best of medical attention. For several days after his arrival in the city he began to sink rapidly, and to all it was evident that the end was near at hand. The deceased had lived in East Tennessee for many years and was exceptionally well known. The funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence of Henry W. FRITTS, Revs. W.D HAYMORE and J.P. McFERRIN officiating. The interment will be made in Forest Hills cemetery. The pallbearer will be F.M. GARDENHIRE, E. M. DODSON, C.S. PEAK, W.R. PHILLIPS, John H. PEEBLES and A.K. TRIGG
• Obituary: 3 Dec 1893, The Chatanooga Daily Times; Funeral of Isham FRITTS. The remains of Isham FRITTS, who died at the residence of Henry W. FRITTS On Harrison avenue Thursday, were interred in Forest Hills cemetery. Rev. R.D. HAYMORE and Dr. J.P. McFERRIN officiated. The obsequies were largely attended, as the deceased was exceptionally well known in this section, being one of the oldest residents. He was the father of Henry W., Thomas W., B.F. and Willie FRITTS, and Mrs. T.A. ROBERTS.

ISHAM G. “ISOM” FRITTS, son of Jacob and Sarah
(Sexton) Fritts (1800), b. 12 Jul 1820, Roane Co., TN; d. 1 Dec 1893; md. Elizabeth Melcinna Jordon on 8 Sep 1839, by A. McAlister, JP, Monroe Co., TN. Elizabeth was b. C1823, TN. It is possible that her father was Thomas Jordon who d. before 1846. Her mother was Lucinda (_?_), who was b. 1776, VA. Lucinda was located in Isham’s household, age 84y.

According to the Mar 1846 Chancery Court at Madisonville, TN,
record #226 “John Avans, Adm. of Thomas Jourden, dec’d, VS
Anderson and Wily Jouden, Dialtha Wayne, William T. Jourden,
Elizabeth and Isham Frits, heirs.” Elizabeth appears to of had one sister and three brothers living at the time of her father’s death.

It has been recorded that Lucy Whittler was the wife of Thomas
Jordon and mother of Elizabeth who md. Isham. Lucy and Lucinda
may be the same person and Whittler may have been her maiden
name.

Isham, whose name has been spelled several ways including
Isom and Isham of which we will use the later was a farmer,
saloonkeeper, and dealer in real estate, in and around Kingston, TN where he sold and traded property.

Isham and his family seem to have been the “Bert Lances” of
Kingston with promissory notes going and coming in all directions. They were making contracts to deliver title to fractions of half-acre lots in Kingston being paid for by notes, while they were buying these lots with the notes. The catch was who payed off who’s notes first. While some of the fractional half-acre lots in Kingston were selling for over a thousand dollars, Isham had to mortgage one of his lots for
a $50 loan from of all people, the real, Hugh Martin, whom, we guess, may have been the builder of the steamboat the “Hugh Martin”—that killed Isham’s son, Jacob. One of the deeds was for the steamboat the “Emory City” (not to be confused with little Dorothy and her Emerald City) and the deed showed it was built in Kingston.

From Roane Co., TN deeds we might, romantically, refer to
them as the "Song of the Tennessee Boatman" involve three sons of Isham Fritts: Jacob, who on 31 Mar 1875, trades the “Emory City” to R.M. and Uriah Allison for the "Hugh Martin" and a note from the Allisons for $5,000; Tom W. Fritts, younger brother, who files an Inventory of the Estate of Jacob consisting of the wreck of the “Hugh Martin”, the balance of the $5,000 note, and a list of about 150 small payments owing to the “Hugh Martin”, and who later in Nov 1875 buys from the Allisons the “Emory City”, and, Wiley H. to whom Tom W. sells the “Emory City” early in 1876.

It was said by Mary Katherine (Fritts) Glover many years ago
that Isham and Elizabeth had nine children with two dying as infants. Thus we are placing a unnamed child between Benj and Matilda.

He was a member of Rockwood United Meth. Church and was a
retired store manager with the Blue Diamond Coal Co., and the Oak Wood store in Kingsport.
Clifford along with his mother, father and three brothers, Walter, Oscar and Jimmie attend Rockwood Christian Church. He began his career as a clerk in a grocery store, upon completing the first year of high school.
Clifford lived for a short time with Walter and his family at Blue Diamond, KY. Walter returned to Rockwood where he owned and operated the Rockwood Coffee Shop [Cousin Aileen called it the “Fritts Coffee Shop]. After Walter’s death Clifford managed the restaurant.
It was at this time that Clifford met Margaret Earhart, b. 12 Mar 1911, dau. of Thomas Abram and Nancy Porter (Love) Earhart. Margaret d. 6 Mar 1993. Thomas was a carpenter and pattern maker for the Roane Iron Company. Margaret had worked several years as a telephone operator for Southern Bell Telephone Co. before quitting to waitress at the Coffee Shop. They md. 11 Apr 1936, Rockwood Presbyterian Church, with Rev. J.C. Orr officiating. Aileen Fritts, Clifford’s niece was their witness.

Their only child, Iris Lynn was b. 31 May 1937. Clifford and
Margaret then moved to Blue Diamond, KY. He worked as butcher in the meat department. He continued in this position at Egan, KY and Bonny Blue, VA.
They lived at Bonny Blue during World War H. With meat being
rationed, some of Clifford’s customers accused him of getting all the meat he wanted. So Clifford “just politely” built a small, neat, off-the ground chicken coop and they ate mostly chicken for the duration.
He was promoted to store manager and the family moved to
Westburn, TN. He then managed Blue Diarnond’s stores at Royal
Blue, TN, Chevrolet, KY, and Bonny Blue, VA.

Clifford spent the last twelve of his working years with
Oakwood Markets in Kingsport, TN. It was here that Clifford and Margaret owned their first and only home. Margaret was an immaculate housekeeper and she made a lovely home wherever they lived. She loved flowers and often on the back of
the moving truck, baskets of bulbs and cuttings would be bumping along to their new home. She worked several years as PBX operator for Oakwood. She often read the Bible and dictionary when resting.
They were very close. Through the years they enjoyed after
church picnics at Norris Dam and Big Ridge State Park in TN. And they spent most of their vacations in the Great Smoky Mountains.
After Clifford retired they moved back to Rockwood. They were
faithful members of the Rockwood United Methodist Church.
Upon reaching his eighties, with tears of gratitude Clifford
remarked to his daughter, “Mother and I feel honored to have lived so and Oscar at the Oak Grove Cem. in Rockwood.
Clifford once commented, that as a young boy his father’s arms
seemed to be as broad as they were long-muscled from his years of work as a blacksmith. On the back of a picture postcard James (1866) had written in a very nice script:

Hello: I am fine how are you. Read your card and was glad
to hear from you. Being you sent me one of my pictures I will
return one in the place of it, hoping you all a happy Easter.

The card was sent to Mrs. Ed. Fritts, Wind Rock, Tenn. Etta was the widow of Ed, Roxie’s brother. She was the stepmother of Ella Mae (Fritts) Seward. Ella Mac was always close to her Aunt Roxie and Uncle James.
The picture on the postcard was of James, a helper, and several others in front of his shop. James was shoeing a large white horse. The card was dated Rockwood—Apr. 12, 1911.

Charlie O. Garrett, age 85, of Batesville, died Friday, February 1, 2013 in a local hospital. He was born July 7, 1927 in Jamestown, the son of Grover Garrett and Celia Wackerly Garrett. He was of the Baptist faith. 
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Von Garrett; 4 brothers: Ott Garrett, Vernon Garrett, Ed Garrett, Everett Garrett; a sister, Lue Ella Nicholson; and a grandson, Justin Melton.

Alice was born on January 31, 1939 in Pocahontas, AR, a daughter of the late Robert Lee Garrett and Eula Mabel (Hollaway) Garrett. On June 11, 1971, Alice married Herbert Williams in Granite City, IL. Alice retired from Piece Goods Fabric Store as a manager after many years of dedicated service. Alice was an excellent seamstress who enjoyed sewing and making costumes for the opera house in Raleigh, NC. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Alice loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by a son, Scott Allen; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Allen; two brothers and three sisters, Ron Garrett, Bill McCluskey, Dorothy Hollaway, Sally Garrett and Patsy Garrett. She is survived by her devoted husband of forty-nine years, Herbert Williams of St. Louis, MO; loving children, Janet (Roger) Wilson of Crestwood, MO, Belinda Morgan of Granite City, IL, Yvette (Richard) Fritts of Granite City, IL and Dennis Allen of Des Moines, IA; siblings, Pastor Douglas (Louise) Garrett of Granite City, IL, Thomas Garrett of O’Kean, AR and Donna Robertson of O’Kean, AR; proud grandmother to twenty grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Alice deserves a beautiful tribute. However, in this unknown time a private family visitation and funeral will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL, with her brother Pastor Douglas Garrett officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery on Maryville Road in Granite City, IL. Memorial donations may be given to Fisher House or DeGreef Hospice House in Alice’s memory. Born June 14, 1947 in Pocahantas, Arkansas to Manuel and Patsy Gibson, she had lived in Buna since 1980.

• Obituary: 1 Feb 2023, Online; Lowell Leroy Robertson, age 54, of Iberia, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023, at his home. He was born in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, on April 18, 1968, son of Ralph and Donna (Garrett) Robertson. On July 26, 2013, Leroy was united in marriage to the love of his life, Bridget (Prather) Rollins, who survives at their home. Leroy had a strong work ethic and was previously employed as an electrician at Midwest Builders and Trane. In addition to being a talented electrician, he was also a jack of all trades and carpenter extraordinaire, taking great pride in building and repairing all types of household projects, especially his man cave. He loved life and enjoyed listening to music, singing, taking motorcycle rides, playing cornhole, golfing, and coaching his kid’s sporting activities. Leroy was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and was his children’s biggest supporter in all their extracurricular activities. Leroy possessed a larger-than-life personality and a heart of gold. He had a unique gift of making his family and friends feel like they were the most important person in his life. He always welcomed the company of his friends and enjoyed hosting get togethers at his lake house and at his man cave. His witty sense of humor and infectious laughter lit up any room he entered. He was always the life of the party! Leroy never knew a stranger and was always willing to help others in need. Above all things, Leroy’s life revolved around his family, especially his grandchildren, who he treasured. Lowell Leroy Robertson was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandpa, and a loyal friend to many. The countless memories and stories of Leroy will be told for decades to come, and his wit will live on for generations to come. In addition to his loving wife, Bridget, he is also survived by two sons, Douglas (Laura) Robertson and Justin (Shelby) Robertson; three daughters, Brinna Rollins, Laney Rollins, and Harper Rollins; grandchildren, Axel Robertson, Chase Robertson, and Parker Ray, with one grandchild on the way, Cash; his mother, Donna Robertson; twin sister, Loretta Loveless; brother, Jerrald Roberston; father-in-law, Richard “Buck” Prather; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, family, and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Robertson; mother-in-law, Kathern Prather; and stepfather, Kenneth Roberts. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with services immediately following at 1 p.m., on Friday, February 3, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia.
