    ROWE (ROW) FAMILY

John Rowe was born in Kentucky about 1825. He, along with other relatives, moved to Jefferson County, MO. On Feb. 3, 1853, John married Minerva Reed. She was born in Ohio about 1832.

Soon after the Civil War John and Minerva moved to Texas County, MO, and bought a farm on Roubidoux Creek near Turley. Here they reared their family of five boys and three girls. They were William, George Riley, Jane Emiline, Jefferson David, John Louis, Mary Ann, Amanda Rose and Edward L.

In about 1900 William, Emiline, David and Louis went to Walnut Ridge, AR, and never returned to live in Missouri.

Little was known about William Rowe but last report was that he left Arkansas and went to Oklahoma.

Emiline Rowe married Robert A. Buchanan and reared seven children, Taylor, Ellie, Levena, Bascon, Lillie, Altie and Louisie. Emiline is buried in Isard County, AR.

Jefferson David (Dave) Rowe married Mary Jane Cooley and they reared nine children, Marjorie, Rosie, Clint, Ila Mae, Virgil, Eugene, Edith, Ruth and Faye. Dave was born in 1863 and died 1924 and is buried in the Arnold Cemetery near Swifton, AR.

John Louis (Lou) Rowe was born in 1863 and married Adeline Weaver. They had seven children, Effie, Cladus, Charles, Dollie, Cecil, Gracie and Jessie. Lou and Adeline are buried in Corning, AR.

George Riley Rowe was born 1857 and married Dollie Ann Rookard. He was born in Jefferson County, MO, and she in Phelps County, MO. They later resided in Wright County, MO. George and Dollie Rowe had seven children, William E., James M., Ira W., John S., Daniel Wesley, Sina Elizabeth and Jones Evans. George and Dollie are buried in Manes Cemetery.

Mary Ann Rowe was born in 1863 and married Almond P. Smith. They had 11 children, Marty Ann, Ada M., Charley, Buford, Arthur, Birt, Senore, Clarence, Albert, Lottie E. and Ona E. Almond and Mary Ann are buried in the Bethel Cemetery in Texas County, MO.

Amanda Rose Rowe was born in 1867 and married Henry Lee Kirkman. They reared nine children, Luther, Grover, Ada, Arch, Roy, Clemma, Melba, Vernon and Ethel. Henry and Amanda Rose are buried in the Boone Creek Cemetery in Texas County, MO.

The youngest child of John and Minerva Rowe was Edward L. who was born in 1869. He married Oma Upton. Edward was accidentally shot and killed at a Fourth of July celebration in 1898 in Houston, MO. Oma died two years later and both are buried in Pinelawn Cemetery in Houston, MO. They had two boys, Everett and Elbert, who were taken care of in their early years by the Odd Fellows Home in Liberty, MO, until about 1910. They were reported to have been discharged to an uncle John Upton.

The original John and Minerva Rowe are said to be buried in the Liberty Cemetery near Turley in Texas County, MO, but they have no named marker.
